Western Skies started as a solo project for singer/songwriter Michael McMahon which gradually grew into a collective effort to write and play songs that combine old Folk and Americana influences with modern sounds in order to create a familiar style of music of which a diverse audience can enjoy. The band rejects the current “indie-electronic” pop standard so prevalent in modern music and instead sets out to comment on the human condition through Folk, Psychedelic, and early Rock n Roll styles. The themes, symbols, and sounds reverberate through the audience because of their universality. The songs speak of life, love, loneliness, loss, depression, and the search for meaning in a world that at many times seems cold and uncaring. The songs provide proof that these themes can be explored and a sense of intimacy and self understanding can be attained through music.
